Fraunhofer Spain Presents It's Research Vision at Barcelona Science Park’s Coffee Connection Event

Fraunhofer Spain participated in the latest edition of the Coffee Connection networking event held on March 12 at the Barcelona Science Park. The event brought together members of the Park’s scientific and entrepreneurial community to foster collaboration and exchange knowledge across the life sciences and innovation ecosystem.

During the event, Josep Samitier, director of Fraunhofer Spain, introduced the foundation and presented the broader framework of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, one of Europe’s leading organizations for applied research. In his presentation, he highlighted Fraunhofer’s strong focus on bridging scientific research and industrial application, as well as its international network of research institutes and collaborations with both industry and public-sector partners.

Josep also briefly presented the mission of Fraunhofer Spain, established in 2024 as a private foundation and based at the Barcelona Science Park. He introduced the center’s first research program, the Fraunhofer Center for Applied Theragnostic (Fraunhofer CAT), inaugurated in October 2025. The program focuses on advancing technologies that support improved diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic decision-making in precision medicine, helping translate early-stage research into practical biomedical applications.

The PCB’s Coffee Connection is a networking initiative designed to strengthen collaboration among the scientific, entrepreneurial, and institutional communities located at the Barcelona Science Park. During the welcoming, Maria Terrades, Director of the Barcelona Science Park, presented recent milestones and strategic initiatives for the Park.

As part of the event, several organizations based at the Barcelona Science Park presented as well their latest projects and research activities, including BECYTES, ISGlobal, Nuage Therapeutics, and ORIKINE Bio.

Fraunhofer Spain’s participation in Coffee Connection reflects its commitment to engaging with the Barcelona Science Park community and fostering collaborations that support innovation in biomedical research and advanced healthcare technologies.
