Fundación Fraunhofer Spain ResearchThe Fraunhofer Spain Research Foundation is looking for a Junior Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Fraunhofer Center for Applied Theragnostics (Fraunhofer CAT) in Barcelona.
The selected candidate will contribute to the development of innovative technologies combining microfluidics, organ-on-chip systems and cryopreservation approaches for biomedical and translational research applications. The position is part of the Fraunhofer CAT programme, focused on the development of novel diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic tools for precision medicine. Research activities will include the development of advanced in vitro models, microengineered platforms and preservation technologies for cells, tissues and biological samples.
This project is funded by: Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades, Generalitat de Catalunya and Ajuntament de Barcelona.
Main duties and responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Fraunhofer CAT direction, the applicant will carry out the following research activities:
- Contribute to research projects involving microfluidic systems, organ-on-chip platforms and cryopreservation technologies.
- Design, perform and optimize experimental protocols related to cell culture, biological sample preservation and microfluidic device operation.
- Participate in the development and validation of innovative cryopreservation strategies for cells, tissues and advanced biological models.
- Assist in the integration of microfluidic technologies with cryobiology workflows.
- Contribute to research dissemination and outreach, including writing papers, patents or other outputs and to be actively presenting at conferences, fairs or other relevant stakeholders’ fo rums.
- Supervision and/or co-supervision of undergraduate, master students, including experimental design and practice, analysis of results and dissemination of results.
- Management of specialized laboratory equipment, including training of new users, writing standard operation protocols, installation, repairing, calibration, location and records of the use.
- Ensure compliance with good laboratory practices in coordination with safety officers.
- Collaboration in knowledge retention, including reading and reviewing of specific material, learning from other positions and participation in trainings.
Requirements for candidates:
Essential
- PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Materials Sci ence, Chemistry or related disciplines.
- Previous postdoctoral or advanced doctoral research experience in at least one of the follow ing fields: Cell culture and tissue engineering, Cryobiology or cryopreservation, Biomaterials, microfluidics and organ-on-chip systems.
- Excellent skills for project conceptualization, writing and management.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, multitask, and manage time effectively.
- Knowledge of biosafety and chemical safety protocols.
- Experience in the fabrication and characterization of soft biomaterials (hydrogels), microfabri cation techniques, and quantitative analysis of engineered tissue models.
- Competencies and skills: Communication, Teamwork and collaboration, Commitment, Proac tivity, Integrity, Critical and Analytical thinking
- Excellent level of English
Advantageous:
- Prior experience with cryopreservation of mammalian cells, tissues or biological samples.
- Experience with advanced cell culture models, including 3D cultures.
- Experience with microfluidic device fabrication and characterization for biological applications

- Full time contract. Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration. Presential.
- Salary: €32.500€ – €33.500
